ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Author, educator and biochemist, Lyle MacWilliam serves as a scientific consultant and public advocate for the natural healthcare industry. Mr. MacWilliam’s early scientific training led him to the investigation of oxidative stress and the biological properties of antioxidants. His research focused on radiation-induced free radical damage and dietary supplementation with Vitamin E.

As an author, Mr. MacWilliam’s creative works continue to be used by leading nutritional manufacturers. A former Canadian Member of Parliament and Member of the Legislative Assembly for British Columbia, Mr. MacWilliam served at the behest of Canada’s federal Minister of Health to help develop a new regulatory framework for natural health products, ensuring Canadians access to safe, effective, and high quality nutritional supplements.

Included in that mission is the necessity of examining not only the nutrients included in a supplement, but also the balance of those ingredients, manufacturing practices, including testing, and other quality control concerns.

Every few years, we look at the entire marketplace of multiple vitamin and mineral supplements and compare what we find to an independent standard, which we call the Blended Standard. Developed from the published recommendations of twelve recognized nutritional authorities, the Blended Standard provides a baseline against which we measure the products available.
